Appearing before the Parliamentary Thematic Committee on Gender and Development recently, Mr Ranga said lack of resources over the years had made it difficult for ZPS to cater for such children.
“Although Government has not over the years been disbursing funding for children accompanying their incarcerated mothers, we applaud Treasury for having allocated funds this financial year to take care of the needs of such vulnerable cases in the prison institutions.
“The organisation is currently in the process of setting up structures to accommodate the children outside prison institutions,” he said.
Mr Ranga said Government had already started providing children facilities like crèches. He said the biggest challenge at the moment         was providing food for the children who would staying with their      mothers.
