THE Zimbabwe Republic Police Fairbridge District Inter-troops Dispol Sports Gala enters its home stretch today with semi-finals taking place in three disciplines.
The annual games, which will culminate in the selection of a team to represent troops in the Commissioner-General’s games, started at Fairbridge on March 31 and the finals are set for Saturday.
“We have nine troops competing in these games, which are used to identify new talent for the Badgers inter-district sports gala,” said Fairbridge sports officer Sydney Madzvimbo.
The nine districts, according to Madzvimbo, are Alpha, Charlie, Delta, DHQ (Admin), Echo, HQ, PSTT/Sub aqua, Quebec and Romeo.
“We have competitions in athletics, chess, darts, first aid, soccer, volleyball and power lifting,” he said.
There will be netball, volleyball and soccer semi-finals. The netball final will be held tomorrow, while the third place play-offs in soccer and volleyball are also pencilled in for tomorrow.
The officer-in-charge of Fairbridge Chief Superintendent Roy Mayisa said the games are also meant to keep their officers fit.
“These games keep our members fit because of the nature of our duties, which is largely physical,” said Mayisa, who is expected to officiate at the closing ceremony on Saturday.
