Fairview takes on Ntunugwe in Independence Day tourney

FAIRVIEW take on Ntunugwe in the final of the Ngwenya Independence football tournament at Manora Centre, Bulilima District.

Paul Rest players and supporters turned violent on 18 April as they attacked the referee who had disqualified them for failing to comply with the rules and regulations of the tournament leading to the final being called off.

Speaking on the build up to the final, Ackim Ngwenya the sponsor of the tournament urged the people of Fairview to desist from using violence and promised that this time the final will take place as various measures to contain violent behaviour have been put in place.

“l strongly urge the people of Fairview and Zimbabwe as a nation to desist from using violence as a way of dealing with problems, on 18 April the final of the tournament failed to take place after the boys turned out violent and started attacking the referee and this time around l can assure that the final will take place as various measures to contain violence have been taken”

Only seven teams made it to the tourney with Paul Rest getting disqualified leaving the tournament with six teams and the teams were dived into two groups. Victories over Solusi and Zihwabeni ensured that Ntunugwe proceeds to the final and Fairview only needed a win and a draw against Derude and Manora respectively to be crowned group B champions and proceed to the final.

Ntunugwe chief striker Emmanuel will be the man to watch having recorded three goals in the two games played.
