Perhaps finding himself playing in the Zifa Southern Region Division One is a dream shuttered but former Zimbabwe Under-20 striker Thembalethu Mthunzi has refused to call it quits as he still believes he will shine again.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police football club player, who represented the Zimbabwe Under-20 soccer team on a number of occasions, says he still has hope that his time will come again as he is still young and has a lot of playing years ahead of him.
“It hurts a lot to be playing in the Division One League having played for the national team Under-20, but what I can tell you is that I will rise again, I have not lost any hope at all, I am still young, at 21 I still have a lot of playing years ahead of me and that’s ample time for me to develop my game, to my fans I say do not lose any hope in me for I will represent you in the greatest heights of the football sphere,” he said.
The former Highlanders player took all the blame for his loss in form which saw him drop to the lower league and admits a lot of commitment is needed in order for him to shine again.
“I have no one to blame for my loss in form, it would be unfair to start pointing fingers, I have to be honest and admit that a lot of work needs to be done in order for me to get back my form of which I am braced for the fight.”
Mthunzi started playing football when he was 12 years old when he turned out for Makhandeni Pirates before moving to Bantu Rovers in 2013 where he spent two years then signed for Highlanders where he saw out his three-year contract. The striker played for the Young Warriors on a number of occasions with his best performance coming in the AUSC Region V U/20 Youth Games of 2014 where he recorded 2 goals and 3 assists. Zimbabwe went on to lose 3-0 to Zambia in the finals.
