A FAKE spirit medium who has been impersonating the spirit of the late national hero, Chief Rekai Tangwena has been fined three herd of cattle by a Nyanga traditional court for causing chaos in the area.
The medium, Sofia Mutukumira; her brother, Tarisai Mutukumira and her uncle, Enock Nyabanga were left licking wounds of humiliation after traditional healers revealed that Sofia’s manifestations were fake.
The Mutukumira siblings then confessed that their ploy was part of a bigger plot to recover their uncle’s witchcraft paraphernalia which was confiscated by Chief Saunyama in 2014.
“The plan was hatched because we want the paraphernalia back in the family. It is part of our family’s property and should be in our possession. The chief had no right to take and destroy it,” said Sofia.
She said if nothing is done to assist her family to recover the paraphernalia, her ancestors will cause the dethronement of Chief Saunyama.
“I have been to many ministers’ offices and Enock told me that we should also go to the President’s Office to get our paraphernalia back,” said Sofia.
However, Sofia’s father, Misheck Mutukumira, begged the court to keep the paraphernalia.
“Please do not give them back the paraphernalia. I was the one who brought the wizardry issue before this court back then. Nyabanga was killing many members of the family.
“This court found him guilty and his paraphernalia was thrown in the river. Retrieving it and giving it back to them will cause more chaos and deaths in the family.
“These people and their goblins are blood thirsty and I could be the first person to be sacrificed once they get it back as they loathe me for exposing them,” said Mutukumira.
In response, Nyabanga denied conniving with Sofia.
“They were my late father’s goblins and if the spirit medium is demanding them back, that wish should be granted.
“ I have nothing to do with this matter and what she is accusing me of are all lies.
“Sofia and her brother should tell the truth about how they want to use the goblins,” said Nyabanga.
Acting Chief Saunyama ordered Sofia to pay a fine of three cattle, while Nyabanga will surrender one beast for causing unwarranted unrest in the area.
In 2014 when the goblins were confiscated, Nyabanga was ordered to pay three cattle.
