Prosper Vanhuvaine, the man who posed as a doctor at Mpilo Central Hospital, has finally been nailed. The court has sentenced him to 84 months in prison, bringing a dramatic end to one of Bulawayo’s most shocking impersonation scandals.
However, Vanhuvaine will serve an effective 42 months if he pays back the money he scammed from desperate patients by 30 July.
The fake medic fooled the public into thinking he was a legitimate doctor, collecting cash from desperate and unsuspecting citizens who thought they were getting real treatment.
Authorities say his luck ran out when internal staff began to question his qualifications and work patterns, triggering a deeper investigation that led to his arrest.
The court ruled that his actions were not only criminal but also endangered lives and tarnished the image of the health sector.
More drama expected as restitution deadline looms.
