A 60-YEAR-OLD man has appeared in court facing fraud charges involving US$115 000 in a botched residential deal.
Harare magistrate, Yeukai Dzuda, remanded Godfrey Mutesanwa in custody to October 21, for his bail application.
Matesanwa of Chitungwiza is being accused of attempting to defraud Cornwell Mutevhe of US$115 000 after he misrepresented to him that he was selling a residential stand.
Circumstances are that on September 30, Mutevhe received a message from an estate agent that there was a residential stand, which was being sold at US $115 000, in Glen Lorne.
Acting upon the information, Mutevhe met with Matesanwa at Law Man Law Chambers.
Matesanwa then issued fake title deeds, and a National Identification Card which belonged to Elfas Chimbera, who is the owner of the stand.
Mutevhe then agreed to pay the amount on October 3.
Later that same day, Mutevhe realised that the face on the identity card was not of Matesanwa.
Mutevhe went on to make his own investigations and managed to locate Chimbera, who told him that he was not selling the stand.
He also realised that the title deeds were fake.
Matesanwa was trapped on October 3 to meet and receive his money.
He received the money, and signed an agreement of sale, which led to his arrest.
When he was arrested, he said his name was Elfas Chimbera but later supplied his actual name.
He will be back in court next week Friday for bail application.
