Fake Zimra official in the dock

A 55-year-old-man, who masqueraded as a Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (zimra) officer duping another man of his $3 650, yesterday appeared in court.

Godfrey Muranganwa was facing fraud charges when he appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Tendai Mahwe.

He was granted $50 bail.

As part of his bail conditions, he was ordered not to interfere with witnesses and to continue staying at his given address.

It is alleged that Muranganwa misrepresented to the complainant that he was an agent with zimra and could pay duty and register his South African registered vehicle, a Mercedes Benz W124. The court heard that Muranganwa was given $3 650 for the job but he did not do anything towards the car’s registration but instead converted the money to his own use before going into hiding.

It is alleged that the matter came to light when the car was seized by zimra, leading to Muranganwa’s arrest.

The complainant lost $3 650 and nothing was recovered.
