Faku nabbed

POLICE in Mutare have arrested two notorious armed robbers who were on their most-wanted list after they had waylaid a businessman in the city as they tried to rob him of cash and valuables last week.
One of the armed robbers has been identified as Tendai Elvis Faku, brother to Tinashe Faku who was one of the three suspected armed robbers that were shot and killed by police in Harare in July.

Manicaland provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Luxson Chananda confirmed the arrests.
He said Tendai Faku and his accomplice were arrested in Mutare last week.

“The two, who were armed with a pistol, had waylaid the victim at his house in Murambi Gardens. We believe that they wanted to rob the victim as soon as he got to his house but failed,” he said.

He said some members of the public saw the two armed robbers and they fled from the scene.
Asst Insp Chananda said during the process, the robbers fired shots in the air, trying to scare away the public.

Their luck ran out when they were arrested by police officers who were on patrol.
After their arrest, the two duped the police into believing that they were Mozambican nationals.

Investigations carried out revealed that they were Zimbabweans and Faku who has been on the run for several years was on their wanted list for a spate of armed robberies committed countrywide.

A team of detectives from Harare yesterday went to Mutare to interrogate Faku and his accomplice. In July, three suspected South African-based armed robbers who were part of a gang that had been terrorising residents were shot and killed while another one was injured by police in Harare in separate incidents. One of the robbers was shot in Southerton, Harare.
