Small aircraft operator, Falcon Air has introduced regular flights into Kariba and other outlying areas in Matusadonha National Park in a development that has been welcomed by operators.
Falcon Air is using a 12-seater Cessna F406 Caravan to fly into Kariba and Kanjedza on North-Eastern Matusadonha National Park twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Tour operator Mr Cephas Shonhiwa welcomed the development saying it will improve accessibility to the resort town while the Harare-Chirundu Highway is being upgraded.
“One of the major challenges to tourism in Kariba is the issue of connectivity where visitors spend more time on the road than is necessary at the expense of experiencing what is on offer,” said Mr Shonhiwa.
“A regular flight has always been a challenge with several airlines coming and stopping operations after some time. We hope that Falcon Air is here to stay.”
Several airlines have tried to service the route but have stopped after encountering operational challenges.
Falcon Air has access to several airstrips dotted in the Zambezi Valley where visitors stay at camps, experiencing wildlife away from the town.
As part of an introductory promotion, a flight to airstrips around Kariba from Harare costs $300 while a flight to Kariba International Airport costs $270.
