Fallen giants sek Chibuku Cup sip

FALLEN giants Dynamos walk into Rufaro Stadium seeking to pacify their legion of supporters by stepping closer to grabbing the Chibuku Cup in a semi-final tie against Triangle United on Sunday.
DeMbare are enduring one of their worst seasons in modern day football and were at one time hovering in the relegation zone only to pull themselves out with two consecutive wins against Caps United and Black Rhinos.

The Chibuku Cup, sponsored to the tune of $400 000, is in the team’s crosshairs to give its fans something to smile about.

With murmurs of instability in the Dynamos camp, victory is not written in stone for the Harare giants.

“Every club has its own problems, be it financial issues or otherwise, so it’s up to our players to understand that they are contracted to do duty for the team while their grievances are looked into by the bosses.

“We have soldiered on throughout the season and winning the Chibuku Cup is the ultimate thank you token for our fans that have endured a difficult year,” said Dynamos manager Richard Chihoro.

The first hurdle is going past a resolute Triangle United side over the weekend.

“Triangle are playing good football and it’s not by chance that they are in the top four (in the Premier Soccer League log) and our players know that it will not be an easy game,” he said.

In the other semi-final match Harare City — the Chibuku Cup reigning champions — square up against Caps United at the same stadium on Saturday.

The Chibuku Cup carries a $70 000 winners’ cheque and a ticket to represent Zimbabwe in the Caf Confederations Cup.

After winning the Delta Beverages-sponsored knockout tournament last year, Harare City opted not to play in Africa citing financial constraints.
