THE long-anticipated trial of Harare dealer Munyaradzi Chauraya, who is accused of indecently assaulting his lover’s minor daughter and recording a video of the act, failed to get underway yesterday.
Chauraya appeared before Harare magistrate Vongai Muchuchuti, who remanded the matter to November 2.
The matter failed to kick off because the trial magistrate is not available, and Chauraya’s lawyers haven’t been handed all material by the State to prepare for trial.
Chauraya is facing charges of indecent assault and producing child pornographic content.
The court heard that on May 27, the dealer made the child touch and play with his private parts, while he was naked.
He allegedly recorded a video which he shared with four contacts on WhatsApp.
On June 18, the child’s mother shared the video with the child’s father, who made a police report leading to Chauraya’s arrest.
The child’s parents were warned to appear in court for trial commencement next month.
Chauraya is also back in court today for continuation of trial in a case he is accused of assaulting the child’s mother.
Tafara Chirambira appeared for the State.
