The family of a Harare woman, Mandy Moyo, is demanding answers several weeks after her death, following a brutal mob attack in which she was accused of being in a relationship with another woman.
Moyo died at a local hospital after succumbing to injuries she sustained during the assault, an incident that has left her relatives distraught and seeking justice.
On the day of the attack she had arrived a few days earlier from her job in a cruiseship.
According to the family, little progress has been made in investigating the case, raising concerns about possible inaction by authorities.
A relative who spoke on condition of anonymity expressed frustration at what they described as a lack of urgency by the police.
“It has been months since Mandy passed away, but we have not seen any meaningful investigations taking place. We feel like the matter is being ignored,” said the relative. “All we want as a family is closure and justice for what happened to her.”
The relative added that repeated attempts to follow up with law enforcement officials had yielded no clear answers, deepening the family’s anguish.
“We are still in pain, and not knowing what is happening makes it worse. We need the police to do their job so that those responsible are brought to justice,” they said.
The incident has also sparked broader concerns about mob justice and violence linked to allegations of same-sex relationships, with calls for authorities to take decisive action in addressing such cases.
Police had not yet issued an official update on the status of investigations at the time of publication.
