Family in despair as Tsholotsho woman goes missing under mysterious circumstances

Sunday News Reporter

The family of Thubelihle Nyathi, a young woman from Mathula line in the Tsholotsho district, is engulfed in despair following her mysterious disappearance.

Her mother, Sithabile Virginia Nyathi, is pleading for help, fearing for her daughter’s safety amid troubling allegations of abuse and coercion.

Thubelihle was forced into marriage at the tender age of 16 to Wellesy Moyo, a much older businessman and senior member of the Zanu-PF party.

“Her father insisted she marry this man, ignoring her feelings and well-being,” Sithabile disclosed, her voice quivering with emotion.

“Moyo was already in a polygamous marriage and used his wealth and influence to secure this union.”

Throughout their marriage, Thubelihle reportedly endured severe physical, emotional, and sexual abuse.

“She confided in me about the horrifying experiences she faced, including marital rape,” her mother shared.

“Despite this, she gave birth to two children during her time with him. It was a nightmare.”

In a desperate bid for help, Thubelihle reported her abuse to the police. However, her pleas were met with indifference.

“The police refused to investigate her claims. We believe Moyo is using his influence to evade justice,”

Sithabile lamented, highlighting the family’s frustration with the authorities. Tensions escalated when rumors surfaced that Moyo was pressuring Thubelihle to engage in suspected witchcraft practices, which she continuously refused.

“That’s when things reached a boiling point,” her mother stated.

“She feared for her life.”

Now, with Thubelihle missing without a trace, her family is deeply concerned for her safety.

Moyo’s behaviour has only heightened their fears; he has reportedly been heard saying he is searching for Thubelihle and ominously vowed to “deal with her” if he finds her.

In a troubling turn of events, Moyo has begun targeting Sithabile, descending upon their homestead demanding to know Thubelihle’s whereabouts.

“He is also demanding his lobola cattle and the children. He has made it clear that he will not rest until he finds and punishes Thubelihle for what he calls disrespecting him,” her mother recounted, visibly shaken.

As the family grapples with this distressing situation, they are calling for urgent action from the community and authorities.

“We just want Thubelihle back safe. We are terrified for her life,” Sithabile pleaded, hoping that someone will hear their cries for help in this time of desperation.
