FAMILY JAILED FOR BASHING VILLAGER OVER WITCHCRAFT

A NYANGA family has been jailed for bashing a fellow villager whom they accused of practicing witchcraft.

Zvaiiteyi Kambarami (42), Shepherd Kambarami (27), Willing Kambarami (32), Takudzwa Kambarami (22) and Kenneth Kambarami (35), all from Kambarami Village, Nyanga, appeared before the Nyanga Magistrates’ Court facing assault charges.

They were all convicted.

Zvaiiteyi was sentenced to six months imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to the charge.

Two months were suspended for five years and he will serve four months.

The other four were sentenced to nine months imprisonment of which three months was suspended for five years.

They will serve six months.

The court heard that on August 9, the complainant attended a family meeting where he was accused of practising witchcraft.

The complainant denied the allegations and, in the ensuing pandemonium, he was brutally assaulted.
