A Mutasa family was robbed of US$1 854 and a cellphone in a daring robbery after two unidentified men broke into their house.
The incident occurred on May 6, 2025, around 8pm.
Manicaland police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka said the incident happened after Emma Muchoko (41) received her initial share of US$2 500 from the sale of their inherited house in Masvingo.
On May 5, Muchoko and her family went shopping in Mutare, while her husband did not return with them, and instead went to Penhalonga, where he works.
“The following day, around 8pm, Muchoko and her three children went to sleep in a one-room flat house still under construction.
Two unknown males struck the wooden door, breaking it instantly, and grabbed Muchoko and her son, Kelvin Manyumwa (16), by the neck, threatening to kill them if they did not surrender any cash they had,” he said.
Muchoko allegedly handed over US$1 854 in cash and a Huawei cellphone valued at US$45.
The two unidentified men vanished into the darkness.
ZRP Mutasa was informed and attended the scene, but no arrests or recoveries have been made yet.
Assistant Inspector Chinyoka urged the public not to disclose the amount of money they have.
He also pleaded with those with information about the robbery to report to their nearest police station.
