A PENSIONER from Sakubva was dragged to Mutare Civil Court by his wife and children for disturbing their peace.
Zvaitwahazvo Munyuki (57) was furious when he appeared before Mutare magistrate Mrs Sharon Chipanga.
He claimed that his wife of 25 years, Chipochashe Mabasa (49), had turned their four children against him to the extent that his two married daughters thrashed him in August.
Mabasa, who applied for the protection order, had this to tell the court: “This man is an alcoholic and he uses a fan belt to discipline us.
“The reason the children hate him so much is that he used to abuse them while they were growing up. He was in the habit of beating them up and waking them up at midnight asking silly questions like whom they wanted to be with between him and I.”
She said the abuse had a negative effect on her children resulting in one of them falling pregnant at a tender age of 15.
“None of my children performed well at O Level because of the abuse. Our 19-year-old son left home for South Africa behind our backs.
“He left a note saying he could not stand his father’s abuse anymore.
“The girls, who are aged 25 and 22 respectively, did not assault him but were protecting me after he had tried to bash me up with a fan belt,” she said.
The court granted Mabasa and her children the protection order.
