There is bad blood between Josphat Mapara and his nephew, Tobias Mapara, to the extent that Josphat dragged Tobias to Mutare Magistrates Civil Court to seek a protection order against him.

Josphat claims that Tobias has been threatening his life.

On the other hand, Tobias accuses his uncle of being a wizard and causing his daughter’s ailment.

Tobias says when he heard that his Harare-based daughter wasn’t feeling well, he consulted a prophet and was told him that Josphat was behind the ailment as he possesses a goblin.

Ever since then, Tobias has been reportedly visiting Josphat’s homestead and accusing him of causing all the misfortunes in their family.

Said Jospat: “He came to my homestead on March 7 and I was alone enjoying my meal. I had to leave the food when he started shouting at me, accusing me of possessing goblins. He accused me of causing his daughter’s ailment.

“My neighbours’ intervention saved me as he wanted to attack me with a machete,” said Josphat.

He said he wants Tobias barred from visiting his homestead as he is trying to force him to consult a prophet over his daughter’s ailment.

Tobias did not oppose his uncle’s application for a protection order, but insisted that Josphat is behind all the family’s misfortunes.

“I asked him to join me in consulting a prophet but he refused. He yelled at me, telling me that he only visits prophets from his church. He also told me that he had consulted other prophets before,” said Tobias.

Mutare magistrate, Mr Xavier Chipato presided over the matter and granted the protection order in Josphat’s favour.

The order, which is valid for five years, bars Tobias from harassing, insulting and visiting Josphat’s homestead to disturb his peace.

Tobias was also ordered to maintain peace at all times.

Mr Chipato also instructed the feuding parties to approach a community court to get the issue resolved.
