Fan fighting mars Proteas win

Cape Town —The Proteas’ ICC Champions Trophy win over Pakistan on Monday was marred by spectators engaging in a brawl in the stands at Edgbaston, according to a report on the Daily Mail website. South Africa won the match by 67 runs to keep alive their hopes of reaching the semi-finals.

Pakistan, on the other hand, slumped to their second successive loss and are likely to exit the tournament.

Pakistan did well to restrict South Africa to 234/9 in 50 overs, but faltered in their run-chase, amassing only 167 in 45 overs, and their slumping batting form seamed to upset the pro-Pakistan crowd who were boisterous in their support earlier in the day.

However, as it became apparent that the Proteas were going to win, the Pakistani fans lost their cool, venting their frustration on each other as is evident in the picture below.

Pakistan’s next match is against India at Edgbaston on Saturday, while South Africa and the West Indies meet at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff on Friday. — Sport24.
