FRIENDS of the Warriors president Todd Dzvangajuru is confident that the Zimbabwe senior soccer side will break a long-standing jinx and proceed to the Round of 16 at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Despite the Warriors rallying from behind to force a share of the spoils in a 1-1 draw with Angola in a Group encounter, Dzvangajuru said the bulk of the national team’s fans are upbeat about Zimbabwe’s chances.

Dzvangajuru is positive that yesterday’s draw between the Warriors and the Palancas Negras at the Grand Stade de Marrakech, was an indicator that Zimbabwe have improved from their last performances, which saw them fail to win a single match in their 2026 World Cup qualification campaign.

They were under German coach Michael Nees back then. Although they lost their AFCON Group B opener to Egypt, going down 2-1, their supporters have noted a renewed conviction in the way their Warriors are playing now following the arrival of Romanian Marian “Mario” Marinica.

As Warriors supporters we are happy with yesterday’s result against Angola as it will go a long way for us to proceed to the next round.

“In the past we could not win both our first games, which often left our third match to be more of a dead rubber.

“This time around it is looking promising as we have managed to get the point, which will boost our confidence. We could have in, fact, won the game today (yesterday) but we felt that our team fluffed a lot of chances that came their way.

“As supporters we are still behind our team and we hope that we will beat South Africa in our last game and proceed.

“It’s a big derby game and as with any derby, it is not about form really but the better team on the day.

“As such, we have nothing to fear against Bafana Bafana. We just need to win at all costs and we feel we can do it based on what we have seen from this team so far,” said Dzvangajuru.

Dzvangajuru hailed the team for their performance and believe that we are improving with each passing game.

“I think the team is improving with each passing game and the return of some players who were injured was a major boost.

“We used to play the final game for pride but this time should be different.

“The players are doing well and we are behind them through and through,” added Dzvangajuru.
