ZIFA Northern Region Division One side Zambezi Coal and Gas have been plunged into mourning after a lorry carrying some of their fans was involved in an accident along the Centenary-Muzarabani road on Sunday.
In a statement, the Centenary-based club said:
“Some of our supporters died on the spot while others were injured and ferried to St Alberts Mission Hospital where they are receiving treatment.
“We pray for the comfort of the families, who lost their loved ones, and we wish a speedy recovery to those hospitalised.”
The number of fans who lost their lives in the accident could not be established yesterday. On the pitch, coach Wonder Ngoko continued to do well at Karoi United after his side beat Golden Eagles at Ellis Robins on Saturday.
Karoi United have now moved into 11th place on the log standings.
The team was at the bottom of the standings, after seven games, when Ngoko replaced Elvis “Chuchu” Chiweshe.
“We have been working as a team and we are looking forward to doing well after the mid-season break. We are looking forward to get some new additions during this window period.
“We want to finish strongly and we will remain competitive,” said Ngoko.
