Controversial podcaster Nhlamulo “Nota” Baloyi faced public scrutiny over his remarks about beauty queen Zozibini Tunzi-Bolowana’s hair.
Baloyi commented on a video from Tunzi-Bolowana’s Miss Universe days, claiming that she is a Nandi Madida “wannabe”, ditched her natural hair to wear weaves, and even went as far as insulting her.
“Wannabe Nandi, she got married in a weave though, so she could look like the rest of the w****s,” he said.
These distasteful remarks led to him receiving public backlash because no one plays when it comes to our favourite Miss Universe.
Fans flooded his comment section, stating that what he is saying is very disappointing and he should let the actress be.
“Nota, this is out of order, though. Don’t talk down on women like that,” a social media user shared.
“What’s wrong with getting married wearing a weave? You go to podcasts wearing shots as if you’re just chilling in your house, but nobody is complaining,” another user wrote.
“This is the energy you should’ve used on Phori, btw,” another user added.
Tunzi-Bolowana captured the hearts of South Africans when she entered a beauty pageant, rocking her short hair and proudly showing it off.
Many applauded her for her confidence to break social norms and stigmas about beauty pageants, and she became a force in the industry.
The model went on to win the Miss SA crown in 2019 and competed at Miss Universe, where she also won the title.
Since then, she has been praised in the beauty industry for her long-lasting impact and for showing young women and girls that all it takes is confidence to enter spaces and own it.
However, like most people, we all outgrow our signature hairstyle and try something more bold and sometimes lean into trends.
Which is what the beauty queen did after her reign, she switched up her hairstyle as she tried weaves or braids, and of course, she looked stunning with every hairstyle she did.
Furthermore, we saw a rise in contestants in the beauty pageant space who were confident rocking their natural hairstyles, such as a bald look, an afro, or simply just a haircut, who reached the Top 10, and some even won the crown – IOL.
