A FARM owner lost valuables worth US$80 000 after robbers stormed the workshop and manager’s office in Karoi.
Ten suspects, armed with iron bars and sticks, stormed the farm and attacked two security guards, who were on duty.
National police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner, Paul Nyathi, confirmed the robbery.
“Police are investigating a case of robbery, which occurred at a farm along Boundary Road in Karoi, where farm produce, inputs, and equipment worth US$80 000 were stolen,” he said.
“Ten unknown suspects, armed with iron bars and sticks, stormed the farm and attacked two security guards on duty.
“The suspects tied the victims’ hands and legs with barbed wire and twine before breaking into the workshop and manager’s office.
“They stole property comprising a drill machine, grinder, 17,3 tonnes of soya beans, 1 510 litres Glyphosate and several herbicides, among other items.”
Ass-Comm Nyathi said the suspects loaded the loot into an unidentified truck, which sped off.
In a similar case, Ass-Com Nyathi said police arrested four suspects, for attempted robbery, in Chivi.
“Police in Ngundu arrested Jacob Gwenhamo, 38, Maruva Talkmore, 38, and Manzini Funnie Frank, 54, for attempted robbery, in which they allegedly pounced on a family in Chivi,” he said.
“The suspects fired two shots into the air before vanishing into darkness after the complainant’s wife screamed and drew the attention of neighbours, who swiftly reacted to the screams.
“Police investigations led to the arrest of one of the suspects, who implicated two others.
“A trap was set, leading to the arrest of the other two suspects at Ngundu Business Centre.”
Ass-Comm Nyathi said police recovered a 17 Astra 9mm pistol and a magazine loaded with 11 rounds hidden in one of the suspects’ skin tights.
