TWO armed robbers, wielding machetes, besieged the home of Ernest Chidzenga in Rusape and took his Toyota Wish and US$800 in cash.
Acting Manicaland police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, confirmed the robbery. The incident occurred Saturday at around 3am.Chidzenga was sleeping with his wife Ever Chingwa (32), in their bedroom, while her sister Leah (25) and a 17-year-old, were asleep in the other hut.
“During this time, two unknown male adults, armed with machetes and a hammer, and covering their faces with woollen hats and scarves, approached the homestead.
“The accused persons entered one of the huts through an unlocked door, where Leah and the juvenile were sleeping.They woke up the two, threatened to kill them with machetes, and demanded cash and valuables.
“The accused persons then tied their hands and legs and ordered them to remain quiet.
“The robbers proceeded to the hut where Chidzenga and his wife were sleeping and ordered them to open the door, but they refused,” said Ass Insp Chinyoka.
He added: “The robbers then used a hammer to break one of the windows and gained entry. While inside, the robbers threatened the complainants with machetes, demanding cash and valuables.
“They then tied their hands and legs with shoelaces. Chidzenga surrendered US$800, which was in a kitchen unit, and two cell phones.
“The robbers then took some groceries that were in the house.
“The robbers then demanded the car keys from Chidzenga, which he handed over. They proceeded to where his Toyota Wish vehicle was parked, loaded the groceries and clothes into the vehicle, and drove off.
“The total value of stolen goods is US$3,900 and nothing has been recovered. Investigations are ongoing.”
