FARMERS have been urged to establish agricultural and market clusters to improve their production, access to markets and bargaining power.
In a speech read on his behalf by agricultural economist, Mr Khumbulani Bembe during a field day Minister of State for Matabeleland South Provincial Affairs and Devolution Cde Albert Nguluvhe said this will go a long way in enhancing the agricultural sector.
“Market clustering and establishing farmer empowerment agricultural clusters will empower our farmers by improving market access, increasing bargaining power, and facilitating bulk input procurement. Through this, we move closer to a commercialised and competitive agricultural sector envisioned in NDS1.
“Let’s remember that agriculture is not merely a source of livelihood, but a vehicle for economic transformation. The success of our province depends on how well we nurture this sector-not only for subsistence but for trade, industry, and export growth,” he said.
Cde Nguluvhe called on various stakeholders such as farmers, community leaders, government agencies and development partners to support these initiatives. He said there is need to commit to capacity-building programs, resource mobilisation and the full implementation of sound agricultural practices.
“By working together, we can unlock the full potential of agriculture in Matabeleland South and move swiftly toward the realisation of Vision 2030,” he said.
