Hello there folks how are you doing this week?
The other day, I received a call from a reader, who asked if I could attend a wedding dress fitting with her and her family. I have never been asked such a question, and normally I would have said no because my time does not permit; but this particular day, I was in the area, and so there was no problem. The two hours we spent there was eye opening for everyone to say the least. What we wanted to wear, ended up not suiting her body type, which then because a sore issue with her. What her family wanted her to wear, suited her, but made her look too mature.
Eventually we found something close to perfect for her, but the experience made me wonder how many other brides out there go through the same problems. I decided to do a short write-up to help brides out there make a proper choice when it comes to the style and fit of a wedding dress. So the if you have what we call an apple shape body which is a full figure all round, you need to avoid trumpet style dresses, because they enhance the widest area of your body.
Look for a dress that holds the smallest point on the waist line. Choose a dress with a good bodice that is close-fitting and would create a camouflage effect. And also wear something with a deep V neckline, which would draw eyes to the upper part of your body. If you are small chested, you need to ensure you have the right bra in the bodice of the wedding dress, because it will provide the necessary boost needed. Look for a dress that is busy on the top, or one that has extra fabric at the top which will help make you look fuller. I have seen flat chested women wear lightly padded halter neck dressed, that turn out to be very effective.
For those Busty beauties, I would suggest a bustiers with a full skirt starting from below the waistline downwards. Also a dress with a scooped neckline would enhance your face. Strapless gowns are awesome on you. Choose dresses that have a sweetheart neckline rather than the one that just goes straight across. For ladies with a pear shape body, try a classic A-line silhouette. Choose a dress that has a skirt that gradually flares out from the waist to the floor highlighting the narrowness of the midriff. A thin strap V-neck will help to enhance the lean features of the upper body.
For those tall, leggy women, put the emphasis on your natural shape. This means all details from the waistline to the hemline etc must indicate your height. Choose the minimalist look when it comes to embellishments. If you choose a dress with long sleeves, the waist section of your dress should go past your waist to sit on your hip, so you don’t look like you are wearing a shorter persons dress.
If you have a straight line shaped body, choose a dress that would create an illusion. So what I am saying is that choose a dress that gives you shape where there is no shape on your body. For instance, if you have a small bust go for a detailed bodice as they create volume. If you a on the slim side, a ball gown would capitalize on your slenderness and it would create a natural waist and give off curves where there is none. For the fuller plus size women, there are so many options for you. But my choice for your body type would be the empire dress.
Make sure the empire skirt starts from underneath the bust line and flares out, also make sure its flattering rather than loose. Avoid an all empire seem that starts from the chest, also make sure there are no pleats. Petite beauties should avoid dresses with a dropped waist, because its easy to get lost in a voluminous dress. Please do not choose a dress that sits on your carve, as they tend to make one look short. Find a technique that would enhance your upper body and make you appear taller.
The trick to any wedding dress is to find something that fits you, but also hides the flaws, yet highlights or accentuates the good points of your body. I always advice my clients that you needs to think years ahead, when you are looking at your photo’s, what will the photo make you look like in that dress. In fact I usually say take a picture of you wearing the dress, then make a decision. Pictures very rarely lie. Also remembers you only do this once (hopefully) , so do it right.
That’s it from me this week folks, join me next week as we continue to showcase the latest in our stores and our very own designers. Until next week God bless.
