A 22-YEAR-OLD Rusape man has been jailed for causing the death of a motorcyclist in a horrific head-on collision along the busy Harare–Mutare highway.
,Liberty Horacio, according to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), was convicted of culpable homicide by the Rusape Magistrates’ Court following a crash that claimed the life of Nigel Dziruni.

The tragedy occurred at around 5:30am on 25 May 2025, when Horacio, who was driving a brown Honda Fit towards Rusape with two passengers on board, veered into the oncoming lane at the 197km peg and slammed head-on into an unregistered SKM motorcycle.
“The rider, Nigel Dziruni, sustained severe head injuries and fractures causing his death,” the NPAZ said. Investigations
revealed that Horacio had been driving at excessive speed, failed to keep a proper lookout, and did not act reasonably to avoid the collision when danger became imminent.

The court sentenced Horacio to 30 months imprisonment, with six months suspended on condition of good behaviour. He will serve an effective 24 months behind bars. In addition, his driver’s licence has been suspended for 12 months.
The NPA said the sentence should serve as a wake-up call to reckless motorists who treat the country’s highways like racetracks.

“This case highlights the dangers of reckless driving and the need for strict adherence to road safety laws to save lives,” the authority said.
