Fastjet commends RGM International Airport upgrade

FASTJET Zimbabwe has said with the commissioning of the new terminal facilities at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe (RGM) International Airport, their passengers can expect an enhanced and effortless customer experience.

On Friday, President Mnangagwa officially opened the newly refurbished RGM International Airport in Harare, one of the signature projects under the Second Republic as it continues to deliver key projects in line with the country’s vision of attaining an upper middle-income economy by 2030.

The US$153 million airport upgrade will see passenger capacity growing from 2,5 million per year to over 6 million, enabling more foreign airlines to launch direct flights into Harare and exposing the country to more investors and tourists.

The upgrading of the RGM International Airport is also expected to see more international airlines opening routes into Harare and a corresponding increase in tourist arrivals.

In a statement, Fastjet congratulated the Airports Company of Zimbabwe (ACZ), the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development and the Government of Zimbabwe on the commissioning of the new terminal facilities at RGM International Airport.

“RGM International Airport, Harare, has undergone an impressive transformative redesign as part of the national initiative to enhance Zimbabwe’s aviation infrastructure. The wait is over and we are delighted our passengers will now enjoy a heightened level of service unlocked by the new airport terminal,” said Fastjet Zimbabwe spokesperson, Mr Nunurai Ndawana.

He said as they move into the new terminal, their customers can expect an enhanced and effortless customer experience made possible by the new facility.

Mr Ndawana said they were pleased to further expand their presence in the terminal with a new sales shop and boarding gates.

Fastjet Zimbabwe’s chief commercial officer, Mrs Vivian Ruwuya said: “As ACZ team has been exceptional throughout the development of the terminal, and congratulations to all involved in the development of this facility. Since our launch in Zimbabwe from RGM International Airport in 2015, Fastjet has grown to connect eight destinations across three countries.”

She said they operate 28 flights a week between Harare and Johannesburg, and the new airport will most certainly deliver an infrastructure equipped to meet the increasing travel requirements of both local and international travellers.

Among other things, work done at the RGM International Airport included expanding the international terminal, adding aprons, installing new air bridges, and upgrading ground lighting and communication systems.

Players in the tourism sector said the development was a welcome move that will give a proper image of the country and also boost the sector.
