A 50-YEAR-OLD Plumtree man has been arrested for allegedly raping his four-year-old daughter several times during his wife’s absence.
The man who cannot be named for purposes of protecting the juvenile was not asked to plead when he appeared briefly before Plumtree magistrate, Mr Joshua Mawere facing rape charges.
He was remanded in custody to Friday.
Prosecuting, Mr Elisha Mazorodze said the man raped his daughter sometime from January to June.
“On an unknown date but from January to June the man raped his four-year-old daughter on several occasions while his wife was away and warned her against revealing the offence. The girl remained quiet and didn’t report to her mother.
“On 28 June police received a tip-off from the man’s neighbour that he was sexually abusing his child. Investigations that were carried out revealed that the juvenile had been raped several times,” he said.
In another incident a 33-year-old Bulilima man has appeared in court for allegedly raping his neighbour’s 13-year-old daughter.
Ntando Ndlovu of Sikhathini area was not asked to plead when he appeared briefly before Plumtree magistrate, Mr Mawere facing rape charges. He was remanded in custody to Friday.
Prosecuting, Mr Mazorodze said Ndlovu raped the juvenile while she was on her way to buy tomatoes.
“On 6 December around 3pm the juvenile was sent by her uncle to buy tomatoes from Ndlovu who is their neighbour. She proceeded to Ndlovu’s homestead where she found him alone.
“Ndlovu then told the juvenile to get into his bedroom so that she could select the tomatoes which she wanted as they were stored inside,” he said.
Mr Mazorodze said while inside the bedroom hut Ndlovu locked the door, removed his T-shirt and stuffed it into the juvenile’s mouth to stop her from screaming.
He said Ndlovu grabbed the juvenile and raped her once and threatened her against reporting the matter.
The juvenile later reported the matter to her grandmother resulting in Ndlovu’s arrest.
