FC Platinum forward, Walter Musona, believes being a father has helped him to rediscover the form he showed in the early part of his career.
His return to Mandava, at the start of the campaign, triggered mixed feelings, with some suggesting that it was a move in the wrong direction.
It then appeared as if his critics were on point after a slow start, which also saw his team being written off in the championship marathon.
The 26-year-old was seeing little action during that phase.
Musona had endured a forgettable spell in South Africa after a lengthy battle with a series of career-threatening injuries.
His resurrection has seen him netting seven times and contributing five assists, with seven games to go, before the season ends.
Musona has been the X Factor in FC Platinum’s fourth championship title campaign.
He is also making a big statement, in his quest to force his name onto the league’s best XI players, for the second time, having done so in 2016.
Musona revealed being a dad has taught him to be responsible on and off the field.
“I think being a father has pushed me a lot,” said Musona.
“Being a family man gives you the drive to push to the limits knowing you have people who depend on what you do.
“No one has to remind you to feed your family.
“So, these are the roles which have helped me to realise my potential.”
He said his return to Mandava saved his career.
“When it was all said and done, I had to be honest with myself.
“I saw the need to restart my career before the situation got out of control and I have no regrets.
“It was not an easy decision and it’s not like I didn’t have any foreign options but I saw it fit to start over at home,” he said.
He hailed coach Norman Mapeza for giving him the chance.
“I want to thank God for this injury-free season, I’m hoping and praying to stay fit up to the end of the season.
“I believe if it wasn’t coach Norman Mapeza, who gave me another chance, nothing of this could have happened.
“I’m hungry to do more for the club, with the help of my teammates.”
Musona is on the verge of winning his first championship in his career.
