A MAN from the Mangwawo section in Mwenezi has been arrested for stealing a cash box containing US$20 000 from a Fawcett cash-in-transit vehicle along the Beitbridge – Masvingo road.
Calvin Chisandako (24) was arrested by the police on Sunday after receiving a report that he was on a spending spree, having bought a car and construction materials.
At Chisandako’s house, a Toyota Aqua car, 35 bags of cement, 30 by 12 fit IBR tiles, 7 window frames, 7 brickforces and 15,000 bricks were found. , a three-piece G tel mobile phone.
It is reported that the police who checked the car found US$600, R2 300 in a blue suitcase.
In the police report, it emerged that Chisandako was the one who took down the money box on 16 October after being given a lift carried by three security guards who were carrying the money from Beitbridge to Mutare.
A box of money stolen from Fawcett’s car was found on his arrest.
The guards said that on the way unprocedurally gave a lift to two people, Chisandako in Lutumba in a business area and a woman in Matsholoni. When they were in Rutenga, Chisandako got off and they continued their journey while the woman got off at Ngundu in the business area where they noticed that the money box was gone. They drove to a police station and reported the matter to the police.
Masvingo police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Masawuso Patinyu said the 24-year-old man was arrested after an investigation.
He said the cash box was found buried in the ground behind the house.
