Financial services group FBC Holdings has cemented its commitment to community development by spearheading the construction of a new, modern hostel at Shungu Dzevana Children’s Home in Hatfield, Harare.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the project took place yesterday, with FBC Holdings board chairman, Mr Herbet Nkala, and group chief executive, Mr Trynos Kufazvinei, stressing the significance of the initiative.

The move underscores FBC Holdings’ Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy, which Mr Kufazvinei explicitly stated is integral to their broader sustainability objectives and aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He emphasised that FBC Holdings is a community-driven organisation that actively supports stakeholder-led initiatives designed to deliver long-term benefits to vulnerable communities.

“The FBC Holdings Group (FBCH) is a community-driven organisation that supports stakeholder-led initiatives that are designed to deliver long-term benefits to vulnerable communities. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is an integral part of our sustainability strategy.”

Mr Kufazvinei highlighted the group’s belief in fostering a symbiotic relationship with the communities they serve, aiming to be more than just a financial institution, but also a responsible corporate citizen actively giving back.

He detailed FBC Holdings’ long-standing support for Shungu Dzevana Children’s Home through various past initiatives, including the provision of farming implements, the construction of a biogas digester, educational support through tuition fee payments, and donations of agricultural inputs.

“Today, we are honoured to extend this support towards the construction of a modern hostel at the Home.

Our ultimate goal is to empower Shungu Dzevana to become a self-sufficient organisation that continues to transform the lives of vulnerable children,” Mr Kufazvinei said.

The construction of the modern hostel represents the latest significant investment by FBC Holdings in the home, with the ultimate goal of empowering Shungu Dzevana to become a self-sufficient organisation capable of continuing its work in transforming the lives of vulnerable children.

Mr Kufazvinei directly linked this initiative to FBC group’s corporate vision: ‘To nurture sustainable solutions that enable the financial well-being of the communities we serve.’

He affirmed the group’s ongoing commitment to sustainable and philanthropic initiatives that deliver a lasting impact, particularly for vulnerable children and marginalised communities.

Mr Nkala acknowledged the increasing need for comprehensive support for the children at Shungu Dzevana.

He recognised the vital role of adequate shelter in their holistic development and commended the efforts of the home’s founder, Sister Mutyambizi, the board, management, and staff.

“This groundbreaking ceremony represents a symbolic step forward in our shared and enduring commitment to improving the lives of vulnerable children in our care,” said Nkala.

Mr Kufazvinei proudly noted that FBC Holdings’ support for Shungu Dzevana directly contributes to the achievement of eight United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, including efforts towards no poverty, zero hunger, and improved health and well-being.

He concluded by calling upon the wider nation, corporates, institutions, and individuals to join in supporting vulnerable members of their communities, reiterating FBC Holdings’ profound appreciation for the dedication of the Shungu Dzevana team.

The groundbreaking ceremony signals the commencement of the hostel construction, a tangible demonstration of FBC Holdings’ commitment to its Corporate Social Responsibility objectives and its role in supporting vulnerable communities in Zimbabwe. The timeline for the completion of the project was not disclosed during the event.
