CHICKEN Inn gaffer Joey Antipas reckons having five players from their camp picked into the CHAN Warriors squad points to the fact that their project was heading in the right direction.
Last week, the senior national team technical department named 34 players in the provisional squad for the CHAN finals to be played in Cameroon in January next year.
The players started camp on Monday and they will break for the festive period between 21 and 27 December.
They will regroup on 28 December until 15 January.
In the squad there were places for Chicken Inn’s Xolani Ndlovu, Ian Nekati, Valentine Kadonzvo, Tichaona Chipunza and Obrey Chirinda, the second highest number of players from a single club.
“It’s a good development which means a lot to everyone who is involved with the team at Chicken Inn. It’s a rare development but it is good to note that national team coaches have faith in our players.
“The mere belief in our players by national team coaches shows that we are on the right track. For a fact I know we have a very good squad and if the players work hard, I see no reason why they shouldn’t be selected for national team assignments.”
FC Platinum provided the highest number with Petros Mhari, Raphael Muduviwa, Ralph Kawondera, Kelvin Madzongwe, Silas Songani and Stanley Ngala earning call ups to join Highlanders quartet of goalkeeper Ariel Sibanda, Peter Muduhwa, Andrew Mbeba and Nqobizitha Masuku in the provisional team.
Zimbabwe will play against Cameroon, Burkina Faso and Mali in the group stage of the tournament.
