“Harare City are not an easy team but we are taking the game very seriously. I am playing a team that has young players who are full of energy and can play well,” said Tendai Chikuni the gaffer who posted a shocking result when he became the first FC Platinum coach to beat Moses “Bambo” Chunga at Larfage.
Gunners spoilt the party for FC Platinum last season when they beat them in both legs but this season FC Platinum turned the tables under the young gaffer.
“I just want my boys to guard against complacency and I want them to be consistent. I hope Katsvairo (Mitchelle) Mlambo (Frank) and Shoko (Simon) will have recovered in time for the match which has been pushed to Sunday.”
Harare City on the other hand are bubbling with confidence.
Having lost 1-4 at Gwanzura this season in a league match, the Sunshine City Boys suffered another humiliating defeat in Kariba when they went down 0-3 in the lucrative Mbada Diamonds Cup.
“We need a positive result. It is our first time to be in Mandava but I am happy that my boys have regained their form. We are playing very well and I might brew a shocker on Sunday,” said the soft-spoken Bigboy Mawiwi who was bubbling with confidence.
Tomorrow’s game pits a young coach Chikuni, who is slowly making a name for himself and a veteran Mawiwi who has seen it all especially in Division One.
Harare City is composed of young players and Chikuni has already introduced Edmore Tsoro, Rafel Muduviwa and Welcome Ndiweni in the miners’ first team. Joel Ngodzo, Katsvairo, William Manondo are other young players and if you add Benjamin Marere, Donald Ngoma, Charles Sibanda, Allan Gahadzikwa, Thabani Kamusoko and Daniel Vheremu then you have a unit that can win anything for any coach.
Chikuni is likely to miss Katsvairo who twisted his ankle on Wednesday. He was on target together with Marere and Ngoma. Fans at Mandava have not been celebrating as Highlanders, Monomotapa, Dynamos and Caps United robbed them of maximum points at their beloved stadium. Last season it was only Dynamos which managed to leave Zvishavane with maximum points.
Chikuni is wearing a brave face and is seeing positive things coming his way, the club and the fans.
Having already won the Bob 88 Super Cup and seeing his strategy of roping in youngsters bearing fruit, Chikuni is quickly improving his CV which saw him land the hot seat at FC Platinum.
Hardbody Football Club who are fighting relegation still believe they still have what it takes to be playing in the Premiership next season. They entertain Motor Action at Ascot Stadium tomorrow afternoon.
“We have been playing very well and losing the plot at the last minute. Mathematically we still have a chance to survive relegation but we are just failing to fight for our survival when we enter the pitch. I am praying and hoping that we collect maximum points tomorrow as we try to climb up the ladder,” said Godfrey Tamirepi.
Joey Antipas the Mighty Bulls’ coach said the match against Watosvorwa was a tricky encounter.
“This is a very tricky game as Hardbody are very difficult to beat at home. I just hope that fair play will prevail but I am just worried that I will be missing my experienced goalkeeper Marlon (Jani) who picked an injury when he was with the national team and I expect Ronald (Mudimu) to do the job,” he said.
