TRAGEDY has once again stalked the FC Platinum family after one of the club’s supporters’ buses was involved in a fatal head-on collision while returning from an away match against GreenFuel in Chisumbanje.
The crash, which occurred on Saturday, claimed one life and left several others injured, casting a dark cloud over the Zvishavane-based club.
In a statement posted on their official social media pages, the club said:
“It is with profound sadness that we announce a tragic accident involving one of our supporters’ buses on July 26, 2025, while returning from a match in Chisumbanje. Unfortunately, the bus was involved in a collision with another vehicle, resulting in a loss of life. Our deepest condolences go out to the family, friends, and all affected by this devastating incident.”
This latest tragedy comes barely a month after the club lost star midfielder Brian Banda, who died on June 29 in a horrific crash near the Fred Mine turn-off. Banda, a passenger in a Toyota Corolla Bubble, died instantly when the driver attempted a reckless overtake at a blind spot and lost control, causing the vehicle to overturn. Another passenger also died on the spot.
The pain deepened just two weeks later when Oscar Bhebhe, another FC Platinum midfielder, was injured in a road accident that left him with a broken hand.
The club seems to be haunted by recurring road tragedies. In 2016, players Charles Sibanda and Winston Mhango narrowly survived a crash while travelling from Zvishavane to Bulawayo. Their vehicle collided head-on with another after trying to avoid a stray cow, killing Mimosa employee Welly Chiyangwa.
