NEW Zealand have called up batting all-rounder Michael Bracewell to replace the injured Glenn Phillips in their squad for the first Test against Zimbabwe at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo.
Bracewell, who was initially left out due to commitments in The Hundred, will now feature in the Test squad as the first match kicks off on Wednesday.
“Glenn’s injury provided a gap in the Test squad and Michael is the closest like-for-like replacement,” said New Zealand head coach Rob Walter.
“Michael’s experience and skillset will be a great asset and allow us to keep the same balance of the team.”
Bracewell was already in Zimbabwe with the T20 squad and will now shift focus to red-ball duties before heading off to England to join Southern Brave for his The Hundred campaign.
“Given he’s here with the T20 squad and his availability aligned for the first Test, we are using the opportunity to include him in the squad,” added Walter.
“We will get through the first Test and then make a decision whether we will replace him for the second Test.”
The first of the two Tests promises fireworks as Zimbabwe look to make a statement on home turf while the Black Caps juggle squad dynamics with key players tied up in other formats.
