ZVISHAVANE-BASED Premiership side FC Platinum will hold a strategic meeting in Gweru tomorrow to map the way forward ahead of the start of the season.
The platinum miners are the country’s sole representatives in the continental competitions following the withdrawal of champions Dynamos who opted out of the Champions League citing that they do not have enough arsenal to participate in the tournament.
“Kugona Kunenge Kudada” have been drawn against Kenya’s Sofapaka in the preliminary round of the Confederations Cup and the first leg will be played on February 14 in Nairobi.
Club president George Mawere said the meeting will, among other things, discuss the club’s participation in the Confederations Cup and a host of other issues including sponsorship.
“We’re going to host our strategic meeting on Saturday in Gweru at Village Lodge where we’ll discuss among other things our participation in the (Caf) Confederations Cup, the issue of sponsorship and the recruitment of players.
“In fact we’ll cover everything pertaining to FC Platinum and during the course of the year we’ll just be implementing things that we’d have discussed during the strategic meeting,” said Mawere.
He said the meeting would be attended by the club management, sponsors, representatives of players and the technical department led by head coach Norman Mapeza.
The meeting is also expected to determine the fate of Jairos Tapera who was seconded to neighbours Shabanie Mine during mid season last year but failed to inspire the asbestos miners to survive relegation.
Added Mawere: “Of course Tapera’s issue is on the table but discussing it with you will be pre-empting the strategic meeting.
“He’s still our coach and if you’re interested in knowing his future with the club then you call our spokesperson (Chido Chizondo) on Saturday and she will brief you on the outcome of the meeting.”
