FC PLATINUM were expected to leave the country early this morning for the Democratic Republic of Congo for a friendly match against TP Mazembe tomorrow. The team was scheduled to travel via Nairobi at 2AM on board a Kenya Airways flight and then catch a connecting flight to Lubumbashi. FC Platinum president, George Mawere, said they were invited by TP Mazembe and will use the current Premiership break to keep their players fit.

“We were invited by TP Mazembe who actually wanted to play us here but they could not travel since their plane is being serviced,” said Mawere.

“They will cater for our stay in the DRC.

“The main purpose of the match is to have a relationship with TP Mazembe.

“If you remember, we sold Sadiki (Ali) to the same team and it is our wish to maintain the relations. We also expect them to come here for a friendly match some time this year.”

FC Platinum had a slow start to the current league campaign but the team has stabilised and found their touch.

Coach Norman Mapeza, who joined the platinum miners last season, wants to deliver the league championship to country’s richest football club.

TP Mazembe, owned by Moise Katumbi, are one of the richest clubs in Africa.

The travelling FC Platinum party will not include Wisdom Mutasa and Knowledge Musona who are with the Warriors.

They, however, have their two Zambian internationals Aaron Katebe and Obrey Chirwa.

Katebe played for Chipolopolo in a Nations Cup qualifier at the weekend.

Striker Donald Ngoma is a wanted man at Tanzania’s Young Africans and could be leaving soon for his new base.

FC Platinum are expected to host Buffaloes when the league championship resumes after a three-week break.
