FC Platinum ready for Sofapaka — Ngoma

DONALD Ngoma, the prolific FC Platinum striker is confident that Sofapaka will fall on Sunday afternoon, a result which will give his team an edge in the return leg of the Caf Confederations Cup. “We are prepared for them. My wish is to score each and every game and on Sunday I am going to score and we are going to win. The game will be tough as we don’t know much about them and we do not want to be surprised by them,” said Ngoma.

“I am employed by FC Platinum to score goals and I must do that. We have to win each and every game we play. We are not intimidated by Sofapaka and they must be prepared for a big surprise because we need positive results,” he added.

Ngoma scored eight goals last season and has weighed in with three in pre-season friendly matches, two against Bantu Rovers and one in their last against Highlanders at Barbourfields.

In the Champions League in 2012 he scored two goals against Green Mamba in Swaziland. He then failed to take part in the return leg and even missed the matches against El Merreikh as he was injured.

His only comfort was scoring a goal against Gabon in a friendly match when called up to the Warriors but failed to find the target in the Chan tournament.

At 25, Ngoma is one of the most experienced and feared strikers in the FC Platinum squad. He has pace and a big frame and is expected to keep Sofapaka defenders on their toes.

He has formed a deadly partnership with Walter Musona and Wisdom Mutasa. If he gets a clean supply from the youthful Tatenda Dzumbunu and Thabani Kamusoko then the Kenyans might find themselves in big trouble.

Ngoma seems to be enjoying a new lease of life under coach Norman Mapeza who has worked hard to make him a better player. A darling of the crowd at Mandava Stadium, the speedy striker wins most of the freekicks and at times penalties for Mapeza’s team.

Another feared striker Obrey Chola Chirwa will miss the tie as he is still recovering from a bout of malaria.

FC Platinum will fly to Kenya this morning at 1100HRS aboard Kenyan Airways and will arrive around 1400hrs. The team will train later in the day and will have a feel of the Nyayo National Stadium tomorrow afternoon. The head of delegation is Brian Chishanga, the Zifa chairman for Midlands Province.
