The Moneybags started the season on a high note as they managed to lift their first silverware, winning the Bob 88 Super Cup and the Independence Trophy.
It was their first major achievement since gaining promotion to the elite league.
The platinum miners lost the championship to Dynamos last season on the final day on goal aggregate in their maiden year but managed to play in the Champions League.
Things however did not go well for them this season despite having talented players in their squad and a good coach Rahman Gumbo who failed to turn their fortunes and the club later fired him and replaced him with his trusted lieutenant Tendai Chikuni.
“We are going to honour our players before the end of the year at a date to be advised. We are going to maintain our tradition but however the event is going to be a low key,” said Phillimon Muvengwa, the club spokesperson.
The team encountered a disciplinary problem resulting in the slump in performance that saw them finishing a disappointing seventh.
Former Gunners playmaker Ali Sadiki is the hot favourite to lift the Player of The Year award after a very good season but missed to be on the calendar after he was implicated in the Asiagate scandal.
Daniel Veremu, who took over the captaincy from Zephaniah Ngodzo, is also a favourite for the Players Player of The Year. Former Dynamos player, the dreadlocked Thabani Kamusoko, also had a great season in the heart of defence.
Young Raphael Mudhuviwa is likely to get the Rookie of the Year award following a stunning performance that saw him scoring many goals.
Last season, Tafadzwa Dube scooped two accolades, walking home with Player of the Season and the Consistent Player award, but this year things might be slightly different following a bust up between the player and his technical team that saw him getting suspended for a number of matches.
Other awards to be won on the day include the Most Disciplined Player, Impact Player of the Year and the President’s Special award.
