FC Stars in the driving seat

REIGNING Bulawayo Social Soccer League champions, FC stars are slowly peeling away from the chasing pack as the league prepares for match day nine scheduled for this morning across town.

When the fixtures secretary, Aloise Zhwaki Lunga, pushed out the log table at the end of match day five they were in fourth place after accumulating 13 points.

However, with each passing week they have been rising up the ladder to occupy the top spot, a position they eased into at the end of match day seven. This morning they have what looks like another easy assignment at home against Pata Pata, looking at their current form the visitors will have to dig deeper if they harbour any intention of getting something out of this meeting.

Following closely behind is 70 Combination who are sitting on second position after collecting 19 points from the same number of games. They will lock horns against Congo, a positive result from this game will help them keep FC Stars on sight.

Not to be outdone Mthala and Man U who are earshots away waiting for the pacesetters to falter in the process elbow them off the apex of the table. These two teams have each accumulated 20 points though Mthala are at position 2 due to a healthy goal difference.

In pool B all teams are trying to catch up with Mayihlome and Skippers who lead the log standings after amassing 24 points each, only separated by a goal difference that favours Mayihlome.

For how long can the leaders keep their foot on the pedal? Only time will tell!
