A COMMISSIONER with the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission, Professor Geoff Feltoe has resigned from the commission to resume his job as a full time lecturer at the University of Zimbabwe. In a letter addressed to President Mugabe and copied to the ZEC chairperson, Justice Rita Makarau yesterday, Prof Feltoe said he had indicated that he would only be available to serve for the just ended harmonised elections.
“When I was appointed as a commissioner on the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission, I indicated to the commission that I intended to serve in this position only up to the end of the harmonised election. I also informed the current chairperson of the commission of my intention in this regard.
“Therefore I am resigning as a commissioner with immediate effect so that I can return full time to my post as a lecturer in the Law Faculty of the University of Zimbabwe for the last few years before my retirement,” Prof Feltoe said.
ZEC had nine commissioners representing Zanu-PF, MDC-T and the MDC. Feltoe becomes the second ZEC commissioner to leave after Mkhululi Nyathi.
