A FEMALE cop who is in a polygamous marriage was injured after she was assaulted by her husband’s first wife for allegedly blocking him from fending for his children. Sibongile Moyo, 31, of Gwabalanda suburb, allegedly assaulted Bakhethisi Dumani, 28, accusing her of being behind their husband’s reluctance to pay for the upkeep of her four children.

Moyo pleaded guilty to an assault charge before Western Commonage magistrate Themba Chimiso and was remanded to today for sentencing.

“I was deeply pained that’s why I assaulted her. She’s very selfish. She has stopped my husband from taking care of my four children. I tried to call my husband several times before I confronted Bakhethisi because my children didn’t have food and he wasn’t picking up his phone because of her,” said Moyo.

In a warned and cautioned statement, Dumani said Moyo assaulted her for allegedly ruining her marital life.

“Sibongile confronted me at my house and accused me of ruining her relationship with my husband. She started assaulting me all over the body using a stick while I was in my police uniform. She injured me and I’m still suffering from severe pain all over the body,” said Dumani.

Prosecuting, Mufaro Mageza said on April 15 at around 9PM, Dumani arrived home from work and was confronted by Moyo.

“Accused person then accused the complainant of ruining her relationship with her husband. She went on to assault her with a stick several times all over the body. The complainant sustained injuries on the head and behind the ear,” said Mageza.
