FEMALE candidates who will be representing Zanu-PF in Matabeleland South province during the forthcoming general elections are geared to defend the country’s revolutionary gains by ensuring that they secure the seats for the ruling party.

A number of women won the run to represent Zanu-PF during primaries elections held recently.

Cde Ethel Moyo who will be representing the party in Ward 6 in Plumtree under Mangwe Constituency said the opportunity to represent the party means that she is a step closer to taking a leading role in contributing towards developing the border town.

Cde Moyo who is the former District Development Coordinator for Bulilima District said this is another opportunity for her to contribute towards developing the nation.

“I have a passion for development and my desire is to take part in initiating development at whatever capacity which is possible. I have been in Plumtree for 40 years and there is still a lot of work that has to be done to develop the town. If we bring development to Plumtree then we can address some of the pertinent challenges such as border jumping,” she said.

“There are a lot of investment opportunities in the town which can boost industrial activity. There is also need to expand the town, especially residential areas. My aim to ensure that I win the seat for the party and then go on to develop the town.”

Cde Sithabiso Mpofu who will be representing the party in Ward 1, Gwanda Town under Gwanda- Tshitaudze Constituency said there is a lot that women can contribute towards developing their communities.

She said women have to take a bold step and take up various leadership opportunities presented to them.

“This is my first time to contest as a councillor and I hope to succeed. As a woman I took a bold move to contest during the primaries and I’m glad that the people have put their trust in me. We thank Government for creating opportunities for women to be involved in leadership in various sectors and institutions. We have to fully utilise these chances. It’s my wish that more women can make a breakthrough in leadership,” she said.

Cde Mpofu urged others to rally behind fellow women to secure various leadership roles. She said the party has to win all seats and in order to do so there is a need for unity and team work from all party members.

Plumtree Town Ward 4 Zanu-PF representative under Mangwe Constituency, Cde Angelrose Mupindiwa said young women have to grow in leadership under the mentorship of their predecessors so that they can carry forward the baton stick. She said she has learnt a lot about leadership and she feels that now was the opportune time to deliver.

“As a young woman I know that there is a lot I can contribute towards developing the town. As youths we shouldn’t look down upon ourselves as age and gender don’t define a person’s ability and worth.

“Our elders have paved the way for us and as I come in I have to work from what is already there and develop it further. We won’t know our full potential as young women unless we take the bold step of trying. We can put our minds to great use by figuring out advanced ways to develop our communities,” she said.

Cde Sibusisiwe Ndlovu who will be representing the party in Ward 14, under Mangwe Constituency said she hopes that her journey in leadership may inspire other women and youths. She said some women still feel that leadership roles are for men even when Government has opened up spaces for women.

“I’m geared to represent the party. Zanu-PF is a party which delivers and my desire is to raise awareness among the voters of the work that Government has done and is still doing in order to develop their communities,” she said.–@DubeMatutu
