Fergie on spending

LONDON. – Sir Alex Ferguson thinks Manchester United’s summer spending was “amazing”. New boss Louis van Gaal shelled out some £150 million on some world class new recruits including Ander Herrera, Angel Di Maria and Radamel Falcao in a free-spending offseason at Old Trafford. But his legendary predecessor in the Red Devils hot seat feels that such an outlay is symptomatic of the bloated money now swirling around the game these days.

“Certainly it’s amazing, the amount of money spent nowadays,” he said speaking at the Uefa coaches seminar. “My personal opinion is that it’s never going to change, the world is progressing, and transfer fees with it, and I don’t know if there will be an end to it.”
Ferguson is no longer responsible for giving the go ahead for such lavish outlays, something he admits he’s delighted about. “Fortunately, I’m not at the hub of it nowadays,” he added.

Meanwhile, Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal is planning to give several of the club’s homegrown youngsters a chance to play alongside Angel di Maria and Radamel Falcao this season as the Old Trafford outfit fight to safeguard their reputation as the custodians of youth. – The Mirror.
