Festival of speed at Donnybrook

WITH less than a week to go before Zimbabwe’s first ever Festival of Speed event, to be held at Donnybrook Raceway this coming Sunday, speed junkies are counting down the days to what promises to be the country’s biggest ever motorsport event. Never before seen in Zimbabwe, a South African professional drifting team comprising of four top vehicles (two Speed ‘n Sound Chevy V8 Luminas and two highly modified Nissan 350Zs) will be sure to impress in their performance as part of the hp lubes/Castrol Festival of Speed.

Although the drifting sessions are expected to be the highlight of the day as the four cars show off high speed sideways action around the “esses” at Donnybrook main circuit, motorsport fans of the other main circuit disciplines will still be able to catch sessions of main circuit racing and Zimbabwe’s favourite, drag racing, albeit as 1/8th mile drag racing on a different section of the track!

The day’s action will conclude with a spinning and burnout display by none other than “Fat Cat” and crew.

Racing is scheduled to start at 9:45am and the day’s programme will consist of four sessions of drifting by the South African professionals, two sessions of 1/8th mile drag racing and two sessions of main circuit racing (for both cars and bikes), all spread out through the day to allow the spectators a taste of all track based motorsport disciplines, even if they can only visit the event for a few hours.
