PLAYERS as well technical staff at Habane Pirates, a team playing in the Zifa Matabeleland South Division Two League got festive cheer when sponsors of the side presented them with some food hampers.
United Kingdom-based Thembani “Yena” Mpofu, who co-sponsors Habane Pirates together with Franklin Sibanda handed over the food items to the players and technical staff at a function held recently in Esigodini.
Mpofu said the handover was made possible by well-wishers who made contributions which were combined with what the sponsors provided. Hampers were given to 30 players and the technical team.
“Our players and coaching team are not getting paid. We only assist them with training materials, kits, food, refreshments, transport for away games, medical expenses and paying for the match officials when we are playing at home. We pleaded for people’s assistance to help us to buy hampers for our boys as they have done extremely well this season and each hamper was going for US$30,’’ Mpofu said.

He expressed his appreciation to all those who ensured that the Habane Pirates players enjoy the festive period.
“A massive thank you to everyone that contributed towards the hampers for our Habane Pirates players. Everyone at Esigodini community appreciates this.”
Habane Pirates finished second in the Matabeleland South Division Two League despite having been on top of the log for the bulk of the season. They eventually lost out on promotion to the Central Region Soccer League, with Talen Vision Academy being elevated to Division One. — @Mdawini_29
