SOUTHVIEW illegal settlers have received a memo to stop construction of structures on a commercial stand designated for a primary school.
The memo, which gives a two-week grace period, was written by Gilbert Gatsi, one of the officials of firms battling the erection of illegal structures. He ordered occupants to stop the construction of illegal structures at Stand Number 2887, Southview Park. When H-Metro contacted Gatsi, he referred all inquiries to another official, identified only as Muvingi, who is responsible for the management of the project.
Efforts to contact Muvingi were fruitless.
Reads part of the memo: “This memo serves as a notice and instruction from Zimre Property Services Pvt Ltd, representing Fidelity Life Assurance Ltd, to raze down the structures you erected and stop forthwith any commercial business operations thereat within 30 days from the date of this notice.
“Failure to comply with the directive will compel us to engage the relevant authority and City of Harare, whose costs will be borne by you.”
However, chairperson of the Southview Residents Association, Albion Shava said:
“We are waiting to see if the illegal settlers will remove their structures.
“As corrective measures, those Fidelity workers, who were giving people land, should be punished.”
A resident said: “Illegal structures should be removed without fail. “
