TWENTY Zimbabwean football coaches dealing with the juniors are attending a Fifa/Cosafa organised youth coaching course in Bulawayo. The coaches have been drawn from the country’s 10 provinces.
Zifa technical director Maxwell Jongwe said the programme was part of Fifa/Cosafa’s mandate to promote football development by operating extensive training and further education training which provide learning opportunities for member associations’ coaches and instructors.
“This course in particular will elevate our game since it touches on the core of development from the bottom through the training of youth coaches. The bias on having junior coaches is to equip the people who’re at a very critical role of churning out talent that most appreciate when it’s the end product,” he said.
“This programme includes how to train youngsters, a brief review of the World Cup, conditioning of young players and match analysis.”
The clinic began with a practical session conducted by instructors Govonden Thondoo from Mauritius and South-Africa’s Fran Hilton-Smith. Part of the course will see participants analysing some of the matches that will be played during the Region 5 Games.
