Mazuva Chinembiri from Bulawayo’s Old Magwegwe suburb has accused her brother Gwinyiso Chinembiri of locking her and her son out of the house accusing her of refusing to pay rent and her son of allegedly smoking mbanje in the presence of children.
Mazuva told the court recently that they live at a family house and her brother has become troublesome as he harasses them.
She said at times she comes home late during the night and her brother would not open the door for her, forcing her to sleep outside of the house.
Mazuva said her brother also shouts at her son, locks him out of the house and was in the habit of telling him to leave and find a place to stay.

In response, Gwinyiso took to the stand and said: “I deny the accusations levelled against me. I don’t have a problem with my younger sister. Her son is a problem. He comes home drunk and bangs on the doors and usually smoke mbanje in the presence of children.”
Mazuva responded saying: “He is lying. He does not want us at the family home. He behaves as if he is the owner of the house. He usually tells my son that he does not belong to our family and has to vacate.”
Gwinyiso said his sister does not want to pay rent while she and her son occupy two rooms.
“Your worship I’m the one who pays rentals yet I occupy one room while they occupy two rooms,” he said.
The presiding magistrate, Challenge Mahembe, granted Mazuva a protection order. Gwinyiso was ordered not to verbally and emotionally abuse Mazuva. The order is valid for five years.
